Timely Filing

You must submit Medicare claims with the correct MAC no later than 1 CY after the date of service.

Medicare will deny claims if they arrive after the deadline with a few exceptions as explained on the next page. When Medicare denies a claim filed after the timely filing period, the denial isn’t an initial determination and isn’t subject to appeal.
