The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is reporting that in week two of the 2022 Open Enrollment Period, approximately 851,000 people selected individual market plans in the 33 states that utilize the HealthCare.gov platform. During the Open Enrollment Period, to date, more than 1,624,000 people have selected individual market plans on HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment, CMS will release weekly enrollment snapshots that provide point-in-time estimates of weekly plan selections, Marketplace Call Center activity, and visits to HealthCare.gov and CuidadoDeSalud.gov for states that utilize the platform.
Nearly 2.8 million people newly gained access to affordable health care coverage during the 2021 Special Enrollment Period (SEP); 2.1 million who enrolled in the HealthCare.gov states for 2021, and 738,000 who enrolled in 2021 State-based Marketplaces ahead of the 2022 Open Enrollment Period.
For 2022 three states, Kentucky, Maine and New Mexico, transitioned to State-based Marketplaces (SBMs) for the 2022 Open Enrollment Period. These factors should be considered in any year-over-year HealthCare.gov enrollment comparisons. As in past years, the final Open Enrollment numbers, including SBM numbers, will be provided after Open Enrollment ends in all states.

All consumers shopping for health insurance coverage for 2022 on HealthCare.gov — even those who currently have coverage through the Marketplace — should enroll or re-enroll by logging in to HealthCare.gov or CuidadoDeSalud.gov or calling 1-800-318-2596 to fill out an application. This year, the American Rescue Plan provides enhanced financial assistance, which can significantly reduce premiums for new and returning customers. Consumers generally need to choose a plan by December 15 for their coverage to start January 1.
