HERB KUHN NAMED TO HEAD MEDICARE CENTER

Veteran health care executive Herb Kuhn will head the Center for Medicare Management (CMM) of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Acting CMS Administrator Dennis Smith announced today.

Kuhn comes to CMS from his position as corporate vice president for advocacy at Premier Inc., a not-for profit hospital alliance.

“We are extremely pleased to have someone of Herb Kuhn’s caliber join the CMS team,” Smith said.  “We look forward to Herb bringing more than two decades of Washington health care policy and management experience to his charge.”

The Center for Medicare Management operates the fee-for-service portion of Medicare, the federal program of health care insurance for older and disabled Americans.  Medicare has more than 41 million enrollees.

Kuhn is a graduate of Emporia State University (Kan).   Before joining Premier, he served in the American Hospital Association’s Washington office as vice president for federal relations.  Prior to that he worked on Capitol Hill in the office of Rep. Bob Whittaker, R-Kan.
