CMS produces a variety of de-identified public data products including public use files, data tables, dashboards, and mapping tools. These public data products are freely available on CMS’ open data websites.
Generally, CMS public data products include a data dictionary, source methodology, and program or data contact information. Access methods include direct downloads, interactive views, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
CMS operates the following open data websites:
- https://data.cms.gov/ - CMS’ primary open data website with data on CMS Programs
- https://data.cms.gov/provider-data/ - Data on Medicare providers that is used on the Medicare Care Compare website and directories
- https://data.healthcare.gov/ - Data from Healthcare.gov on individual and small group medical and dental plans, as well as Marketplace-certified local help and community provider lists
- https://data.medicaid.gov/ - Data on Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program
- https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/ - Data on financial relationships that drug and medical device companies have with healthcare providers
