Special Listening Session: Radiation Oncology Model - Onboarding Participants
The Radiation Oncology (RO) Model team hosted a Special Listening Session to provide a high-level overview of the finalized RO Model and instruct RO participants on initial steps needed in preparation for the Model start on January 1, 2021.
The purpose of the Radiation Oncology Model is to improve the quality of care for Medicare beneficiaries receiving radiotherapy (RT) services and move toward a simplified and predictable payment system. The RO Model is testing whether prospective, site neutral, modality agnostic, bundled payments will reduce program expenditures, while preserving or enhancing quality. In response to public comment, the final rule reflect revisions to the number of participants included the Model, the included cancer types and modalities, the pricing methodology - such as reducing withhold and discount amounts, and addition of an opt-out option and stop-loss policy.
