- Medicare HETS 270/271 Clearinghouse Submitters:
CMS previously issued a statement that Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities were not permitted to use the Medicare HETS 270/271 eligibility system. CMS and the Department of Veterans Affairs are now finalizing plans that will allow VA facilities to utilize HETS 270/271 to verify eligibility.
If your clearinghouse represents any VA facilities that would like to use HETS 270/271, please complete and return the spreadsheet from the Downloads section below no later than July 14, 2008. Please refer to the Downloads section below for instructions on completing the spreadsheet. Completed spreadsheets should be returned to .
Please note that all clearinghouses who submit eligibility requests on behalf of VA facilities will be enumerated with a separate submitter ID that must be used on each 270 request submitted for a VA facility. These transactions will be audited to ensure compliance with this requirement; failure to submit VA eligibility requests using the proper process may result in suspension or deactivation of the regular clearinghouse and/or VA-clearinghouse submitter ID.
