Medicare HETS 270/271 Submitters:
The HIPAA Eligibility Transaction System (HETS) has experienced significant increases in 5010 production transactions during the last few months. However, there are many HETS submitters that have tested but have not taken steps to move into production for 5010. In addition, there are many HETS submitters that have not yet initiated testing or have not been successful in their 5010 testing. Therefore, to ensure that progress continues to be made, CMS is planning to take the following steps for HETS submitters:
- All HETS submitters that have successfully tested will be notified that they have 30 days to cut over to 5010.
- HETS submitters that have not yet tested successfully will be notified that they must submit their 5010 transition plan and timeline to MCARE in 30 days.
- HETS submitters have the responsibility to notify the providers they service about these action steps.
For more information on the ASCX12 Version 5010 for HETS please the 5010 HETS 270/271 Information page. A link to this page is provided in the Related Links Inside CMS section below. This page will be updated with current 5010 information, including the details outlined in this message.
Your organization will receive additional communication from MCARE specifying the exact steps that your organization must take, including specific deadlines. In the interim, CMS urges submitters to continue your efforts to meet the January 1, 2012 compliance deadline for sending ASCX12 Version 5010 eligibility requests.
