Medicare HETS 270/271 Submitters:
In March 2011 CMS published a HETS 270/271 Communication Protocol Best Practices document and asked all submitters to review the document and modify their processes as necessary. Today CMS is publishing a companion best practices document, this time focusing on the actual data content contained within the 270 request and 271 response. Again, CMS asks all HETS 270/271 submitters to review this document and modify your processes as necessary to comply with these best practices.
CMS has compiled a list of HETS submitter DO's and DON'Ts to provide additional guidance regarding HETS 270/271 content best practices that have been identified during CMS analysis. CMS requires that all HETS 270/271 submitters read this document and then review their HETS content practices to ensure that their organization is following these best practices. CMS will contact submitters whose behavior is not consistent with these practices to determine the submitter's action plan to improve.
