Medicare HETS UI Internet Eligibility Users:
CMS announces that the HETS UI Internet Eligibility system, which has been in a limited release pilot program since its inception, will be discontinued in the near future. Medicare Providers and Suppliers that currently utilize the HETS UI Internet Eligibility system will instead utilize an internet based eligibility portal provided by your local Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). CMS, the MACs and the MCARE Help Desk will work together to ensure that all impacted organizations have an opportunity to enroll for a MAC provided eligibility portal before the HETS UI Internet Eligibility system is discontinued.
Organizations that utilize the HETS UI Internet Eligibility system should contact their local MAC to discuss options, including a MAC provided internet based Medicare eligibility portal. MACs can provide additional information regarding the availability of these systems, including the necessary registration process. CMS urges impacted organizations to reach out to your MAC soon to discuss these options as CMS plans to sunset the HETS UI Internet Eligibility system by the end of 2013.
Once an organization has completed its migration from HETS UI to a MAC provided eligibility solution, CMS does request that the organization notify the MCARE Help Desk that HETS UI access is no longer needed. The MCARE Help Desk will then archive HETS UI access to ensure application and User security.
Please contact your local MAC for additional information regarding their Medicare eligibility solutions for Providers and Suppliers. If you have additional questions about the HETS UI Internet Eligibility system, please contact the MCARE Help Desk.
