African American Partners
African Americans are living longer, with the death rate decreasing about 25% between 1999 and 2015. Still, African Americans between the ages of 18 and 49 are disproportionately affected and susceptible to certain diseases and health disparities compared to whites. Rates of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, asthma, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and influenza remain higher, while fewer people have insurance. CMS is making concentrated efforts to end these disparities, while helping millions of African Americans with health care access and disease prevention and control through Medicare and Medicaid.
The Partner Relations Group (PRG) is working towards the health prosperity of the African American Community through healthcare outreach efforts with national and local organizations.
