Washington Managed Fee-for-Service Model

On October 25, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that the state of Washington would become the first state to partner with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Financial Alignment Initiative (FAI) to test a managed fee-for-service (MFFS) model for providing Medicare-Medicaid enrollees with a more coordinated, person-centered care experience. Through the demonstration, Washington is building upon its Medicaid health home model, targeting Medicare-Medicaid enrollees with chronic health conditions. The demonstration began on July 1, 2013.
