Joplin, Missouri (2011)

The 2011 Joplin tornado, a catastrophic EF5-rated multiple-vortex tornado occurred late in the afternoon of Sunday, May 22, 2011. It rapidly intensified, tracked eastward across the city, and continued eastward across Interstate 44 into rural portions of Jasper and Newton counties. It was the deadliest tornado to strike the United States, killing 158 people, injuring 1,150, and causing $2.8 billion in damages.
